Done and Dusted

Week 9

Over the past nine weeks, I have now finally finished my film for moving image. After collecting my scenes, adding in the audio and changing the contrast, lighting, colour and balance of each clip, I have now finished the process of exporting my film into an mp4 for viewing. Throughout this project, I first had difficulty trying to figure out what I needed to make this kind of film, how it is going to be shot, what view point needed to be used, should I include sound from the clips and the duration of the film in general but even though my film might not be the most artistic or flashy, I would have preferred it to be simple and natural through how it would viewed through my eyes. My film didn't involve a lot of moving video effects or titles but that's how I think this kind of film should have been produced. Over all I think that with good handling of using colour, contrast and balance and with a good soundtrack, I was able to make a descent enough film.

Finishing the Final touches

Week 7 and 8

For the past two weeks, I have been focusing on shooting and developing my film for my project. It has been slightly difficult trying to decide on what scene I just record as part of my daily routine or how long a scene should be or where how it should be shot. I have gathered a majority of different clips to add to my film and have started slowly working through the progress. So far I am experimenting with which songs to include in my film, working with video transactions and effects, trying to decide and how should my clips switch to the next one. From what I have now, I am fairly pleased and look forward to looking at the final outcome of my project.

Week 6

This week was about looking more into première and trying to get a better concept on how to put together footage and audio. So we looked through a few examples of silent films. Our class task was to be put into groups again and add sound effects and audio to a silent film. Again my group was with Amy Melissa, Lauren and Milena. We thought that the haunted house was a good choice in a silent film. It was funny, scary and had an interesting storyline. Me and Melissa decided to do the titles and credits, while Amy, Milena and Lauren decided to do the sound effects and audio for the silent film. It was a short task but I found it enjoyable because I like working within groups and learning more about premiere.

Time for some colour

Week 5

As this week was cut short, our first class consisted of looking at colour correction, colour grading and vignettes. I found this class to be quite helpful because I was able to learn how to use a certain filter over my footage, change the quality, depth and exposure all in one go. It also showed me how many films use this technique to improve the atmosphere in certain scenes which helped give me a better understanding of how to use colour corrections and filters to show the mixture of moods in my film.

Week 4

As we didn't have class this week I decided to experiment with different filters and effects on première to help me get more accustomed to using the software for whenever I'm putting all of my footage together. I also tried to experiment with manipulating audio frames as well and trying to see if I can cut or extend a song to my use.

week three

This week we were looking at green screening and using that for filming. We looked at a few example videos and one in particular was the Jean Claude Van Damme video. It had comedy, action, suspense and a lot of freelance acting for a short film. Our first class task for the day was to get it into groups and film certain footage to transfer onto after effects and use the Van Damme film for green screening. My group was with Amy and Melissa and Lauren. At first it was difficult to try and think of ideas for how to make it a good short film but eventually we just decided to make it look at stupid as possible but with a slight comical twist to it. We took different approaches to bringing the film together through after effects but eventually we managed to make a somewhat mediocre film. 

Needless to say, I enjoyed this weeks task.

Developing and creating

Week two

This week we looked at storyboarding again for filming. We originally had to make a storyboard from the script we produced last week but instead of drawing a storyboard for a script that I wasn't going to use, I decided to write a brief script for my project and draw storyboards through that.

My script and storyboard consist of planning for my project brief, 120 seconds of a day. I also decided to make me the main subject in my film and call it 'A day in the life of Holly.' Basically it would be filmed on a basic day for me from waking up in the morning, to hanging out with a friend, to going to work and then to bed. The reason why I have decided on filming myself is because I wanted to record something sweet, simple and personal. I am looking forward to seeing how the filming works out. As far as the storyboards and scripting goes, here are images of my storyboards and new script:

Fooling around with some scripts...

Last week, we were asking to create some small storyline to help us get used to script writing.
We learnt about different story paradigms, screen shots and abbreviations for context of the script.
I bascially done a character grid of a make up fuedal japan house servant with simple features, personality and mind. Then I created five short storylines scripted out with description of scenery, lines, action movements and sound. Each story starts at different points of the day which is Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Dusk to briefly explain the life of a house servant working for a Princess and her masters while dealing with her own personal conflicts outside the palace grounds.
